Since the Lebanese crisis started.. I kept in touch with a dear lebanese friend through sms..

It’s almost impossible to get through by phone, whereas sms is instant.

She lives in beit mery near broummana ..

not in the line of fire.. fortunately..

here are some messages that I received from her:

“hope we’re not next”

“we’re ok, but we’re running out of supplies and baby milk”

“no more gas”

“we’re not working.. so there will be no pay check”

“Happy Birthday for Goobi ” (my son)

“Simply, this is Israel, I couldn’t describe it with words”

“we can hear the booms and planes but we’re still safe.. but psychologically we’re ZERO, even below ZERO”

 

Even at the darkest hours, she remembered …

that’s how she always is.. never misses to remember a birthday or anniversary..

she’s christian, but never misses to greet me on our eids..

our last sms, was the most heartbreaking for me..

“…. ZERO, even below ZERO”

I answered back saying:

“allah ma3akom wi3eenkom.. there are donation campaigns here but I don’t know how they’ll get them in”

I received no answer…

I felt totally useless..

I’d like to convince myself that we ARE doing something by circulating emails and signing petitions and making donations..

but I can’t seem to believe myself.. again.. I feel useless..
