I Cast My Vote :) June 29, 2006

When I got there, it was already 8:30 a.m. The street was jammed and we were not allowed to park in the school’s parking lot. I had to park somewhere, and so with my son (a three year old who wouldn’t let me go out without him !!) walked towards the entrance. Dozens of girls (ages ranging 10-30 yrs old) dressed in candidates’ t-shirts rushed with flowers and flyers..
Unfortunately, the girls of Jamal Al-Omar were a majority. When they had the nerve to come to me and say “لاتنسين ولدنا جمال العمر” or something like “هالله هالله بجمال” , I would laugh directly in their faces !!
تعوذت من ابليس وقلت يابنت الحلال لاتردين عليهم لا تطلعلج وحده ملسونه.. ما يسوى عليج
So I went in.. and was liking the whole thing because it’s history for me and all Kuwaiti women..
The line was loooong , very unorganized, we basically had to know who’s the lady infront of us in line , and stick with her. And I happened to sit between two very nice ladies, one of them actually organized the whole thing for the organizers! (mashkoorah:) )
I waited for 1:45 hrs to go in and cast my vote. I ticked the names of my candidates and prayed as I folded the paper and put it in the box that both would win, crushing the infamous false “beauty” .
Overall, it was a great moment to participate in this country’s democracy. It will inshalla be a greater moment tomorrow when the voice of justice raises above all others.
Regardless what happens.. Kuwait and its youth, the young rising generation, will continue to fight corruption and create a better future for our children and grandchildren.
الله يحفظ الــــــكــــــويــــــت وأهلـــهــــا
(P.S: if you see a cute boy in Al-Anba’a newspaper tomorrow wearing a blue polo t-shirt and white shorts…. that’s my Gooba !!) lol
